You can pursue study in another area through a concurrent diploma alongside your undergraduate degree to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge.
The Diploma in Languages (DipLang) enables students to gain a diploma in language study while completing an undergraduate degree in Arts, Biomedicine, Commerce, Environments, Music or Science at the University of Melbourne. The Diploma can be taken by students without previous language training or those seeking to develop their existing language skills.
The School of Languages and Linguistics and the Asia Institute at the Faculty of Arts offer the following language study areas through the DipLang:
You can apply for the DipLang after you have been accepted into the Bachelor of Arts or another New Generation degree. You can begin the Diploma at the same time as your undergraduate degree or at any time up to the start of your final semester. If you decide to begin the Diploma later in your degree, you need to have studied the language as part of your degree and your study options may be limited. You should discuss your options with a student adviser when commencing your undergraduate degree.

Recognising that not all students interested in musical study wish to commit themselves to professional training in music, the University of Melbourne offers a concurrent Diploma in Music (Practical). Applications for entry into the Diploma should be made directly to the Faculty of Music upon acceptance into the student's main degree program. The Diploma in Music (Practical) will usually add one year to the total duration of the student's main degree course, and can only be awarded on the successful completion of the student's main degree.

The Global Issues Program is designed to meet the needs of students who are considering careers that require an international perspective. Seven U21 universities collaborate in the teaching of the program, which offers collaborative learning in an international setting, drawing on the capacity of the participating institutions.
The program's unique format and delivery distinguishes it from other courses. It is a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional program with mixed delivery, including online and on-campus subjects. It allows students to enrich their degree with components taken from other research-led universities with international reputations, guaranteeing benchmarking against national and international best practice.
