Bachelor of Arts

Concurrent programs on offer

You can pursue study in another area through a concurrent diploma alongside your undergraduate degree to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge.

Undergraduate students will have access to a range of diplomas to enable them to complete an in-depth sequence of study in disciplines such as mathematics, languages, music and ICT.

A Diploma may add up to one year to the total duration of your study, however in some circumstances it will be possible to complete a diploma within the within the three years of the degree.

The diploma normally consists of a sequence of first, second and third year subjects in a relevant area of study.

The Diploma in Languages (DL) enables students to gain a diploma in language study while completing an undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne. The School of Languages and Linguistics and Asia Institute offer the following language study areas through the DL: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

Application and selection for the concurrent diploma in languages takes place during the re-enrolment period of the third year of the new generation degree.

Diploma in Music (Practical)

Recognising that not all students interested in musical study wish to commit themselves to professional training in music, the University of Melbourne offers a concurrent Diploma in Music (Practical). Applications for entry into the Diploma should be made directly to the Faculty of Music upon acceptance into the student's main degree program. The Diploma in Music (Practical) will usually add one year to the total duration of the student's main degree course, and can only be awarded on the successful completion of the student's main degree.

For further information please see the Diploma in Music (Practical) course outline in the current undergraduate handbook.
